We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with 10+ years of relevant experience. Microsoft’s Azure Data Engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

 

Within Azure Data, the database team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable a multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational, and OSS offerings.

 

The Azure Data SQL Security Auditing team, which is a compliance module for SQL is seeking people who are passionate about creating a secure distributed service that can handle massive scale, high performance, and high reliability, for Azure SQL. With good coding skills and knowledge on the security, networking, Compliance area.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, and C#. 
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping products.  Customer handling and on-call.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
      • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
      • OR equivalent experience.
    • Development or use of distributed or cloud platform components.
    • Proficient debugging of application code with tools such as WinDbg.
    • Design and development experience in database engines, distributed systems, and cloud computing.
    •  Hands-on experience with relational databases
    •  Hand-on experience with shipping authentication, authorization, or identity management products.

  • Write and learn to create code that is extensible and maintainable.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed.
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solutions.
  • Apply a growth mindset to constantly learn and improve.
  • Bring clarity and energy, and deliver customer obsessed and data-driven results.
  • Mentor junior engineers, build cooperative partnerships, and contribute to others' success.
